Training my Parrots to Accept Nail Filing

When pedicure perches fail their purpose, I have to resort to trimming my parrot's nails gently. In my opinion, a nail file works best for smoothing down pointy nail tips and is easier to train with than dremels or clippers. I leave the dremel to the professional vets! And at $15 for a nail trim at the vet, I try to visit only once or twice a year.

Training Guide:
1. Touch their feet regularly to get them accustomed to having their feet held and moved.
Trick training them to shake my finger is a fun way to encourage this behavior.
2. Show them the nail file and give lots of treats. Make sure they aren't afraid of it.
3. Hold the nail file to their feet and trim one or two nails at a time. Take it slowly and reward with lots of treats!
