Nothing beats natural sunlight, not even a full spectrum light bulb. So don't be deceived by those marketing ploys!

Taking your parrot outside is important for two main reasons. Obviously the first is stimulating vitamin D photosynthesis, but the second is all about socialization. 

Socialization, in my opinion, is like grade school for your parrot, a crucial time where he or she can learn to adapt to new situations and become well-rounded. That being said, keep your parrot safe by either using a cage or harness.
